Whosoever said that Saṃskṛtam is only for the initiated scholars and about religious verses alone, move over!
It would be interesting to note that Saṃskṛtam was spoken in Bhārataṃ by its populace during the golden eras, under its illustrious Kings.
Such was the ease of the language that many used it prodigiously to fill the role of the mundane as well as the sublime!
In line with the erstwhile status of this highly refined language as a widely accepted one, Saṃskṛta Bhāratī has ventured to bring to the public, a reminiscence of the golden era, a taste of how Saṃskṛtam had ruled the roost with much élan with not just its wealth of literature in the realm of spiritual knowledge but on secular topics as well!
To this end, a delectable bouquet of poems has been presented in musical form on topics ranging from Nature, motherhood, love for one’s nation and the like.
Penned, composed, sung and performed by artistes of acclaim, the songs take us through a journey of awakening, of realization on how language and music blend perfectly well to sustain and nourish us not just with our thoughts, but our life as a whole!
A great majority of scholars of various nations have been unanimous in identifying Saṃskṛtam as the perfect language in the world!
The language, in addition to its virtues of having a perfect grammar, perfect phonetic structure and abundance of vocabulary, is also a key in opening the veritable treasure-trove of Bhāratam’s ancient wisdom and knowledge!
To live life in all its possibilities, positive and vibrant, ‘pāṭhayema saṃskṛtam’ – ‘Let us teach Saṃskṛtam’, far and wide!
विविधराष्ट्रेषु विद्यमानाः भूयिष्ठाः भाषाविज्ञाः एकमनसा संस्कृतभाषां सर्वथा पूर्णा भाषा इति अभिज्ञातवन्तः ।
तस्याः अत्युत्तमं व्याकरणं, श्रेष्ठा ध्वनिघटना, असङ्ख्यशब्दनिधिश्च सन्ति । ततोऽपि विशेषतः भारतस्य प्राचीनं ज्ञानविज्ञानकोशम् उद्घाटयितुं सैव कुञ्चिका भवति।
जीवने सद्विचारान् ऊर्जस्वलतां च आनेतुम् – पाठयेम संस्कृतं…….
Saṃskṛtam is the pivot on which the culture of Bhāratam thrives, a culture that ensures pluralism.
Historically, hindusthānam has been a great melting pot which welcomed all faiths – Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, etc. in line with its dhārmika foundations of pluralism.
The song ‘sarvamaṅgaladāyinīyam’ is rendered in a style where the teacher’s (guru) voice finds resonance in that of the disciple (śiṣya). It is a musical prayer to let the ‘Language Divine’ bloom, thrive, unbound and unfazed, spreading its fragrance all around!
संस्कृतमेव आधारः यत्र भारतीया संस्कृतिः वर्धते, या संस्कृतिः नानात्वं प्रबलयति ।
ऐतिहासिकदृष्ट्या वयं पश्यामः यद् भारतं महापात्रम् आसीत् अस्ति च यत् पारसीक-यहूद- क्रिस्तु-इस्लाम धर्मेभ्यः स्वागतं न्यवेदयत् । अत्र नानात्वस्य धार्मिकः आधारः प्रकटः ।
गुरोः स्वरः शिष्यस्य अनुरणनेन संमिलति इति “सर्वमङ्गलदायिनीयम् …” इति गीतस्य शैल्याः विशेषः । देवभाषासुमं विकसतु सुगन्धं प्रसारयत् सदा तिष्ठतु इति अत्र प्रार्थना ।
All it requires is a bend of mind, to be still and tranquil and be a witness to the myriad scenes that It churns out every day!
The beauty and splendour of the sky at sunset simply bowls the poet over!
All he can do is to wonder and offer salutations to the One, the Master Painter!
The canvas of sunset, all set to take us through a reverie in the song ‘sāyaṃ kāle’!
सा प्रतिदिनं यानि परस्सहस्रं दृश्यानि आविष्करोति तानि साक्षात्कर्तुं मनसः तदनुकूलप्रवणता एव आवश्यकी ।
सूर्यास्तमये आकाशस्य यत् सौन्दर्यम् अस्ति, या च शोभा अस्ति तदुभयं कविम् अद्भुतचकितं करोति ।
आश्चर्येण स्तब्धः भूत्वा प्रकृतेः महाचित्रकारम् अभिवादयितुमेव सः शक्नोति ।
सूर्यास्तमयस्य चित्रपटम् अस्मान् सन्तोषोत्सवमार्गे नेतुं सज्जं ” सायंकाले ” इति गानद्वारा ।
Compassion is so synonymous with motherly love that poets could not but sing in praise of its heavenly form!
The acts and deeds of mother and child have been evergreen favorites transcending time and space!
It is morning and beginning of a new day.
For the child in peaceful slumber, nothing will suffice but the loving voice of her mother to wake her up to a day full of promise and love!
Through the day, each and every deed of her mother is that of adoration and tender love! Let us hear it again through her world and her words – kalye budhyati mama jananī!
अनुकम्पा मातुः प्रेम्णा तुल्या भवति इति कारणेन कवयः तस्य दैविकरूपस्य स्तवनम् अकृत्वा स्थातुं न शक्तवन्तः ।
शिशोः मातुः च सर्वाः चेष्टाः कालं देशं च अतिक्रम्य वर्तमानाः सर्वप्रियाः भवन्ति ।
इदं प्रभातम् । एकस्य नवदिनस्य आरम्भः ।
शान्तिपूर्णायां निद्रायां शयानां बालिकां सान्त्वनस्नेहपूर्णस्य दिनस्य प्रतीक्षया उत्थापयितुं मातुः मधुरः स्वरः एव पर्याप्तः ।
यावद्दिनं मातुः एकैका चेष्टा सान्त्वनस्य मृदुस्नेहस्य च भवति । बालिकायाः शब्देभ्यः तदधिकृत्य शृणुयाम– कल्ये बुध्यति मम जननी ॥
Their sacrifice acts as a bulwark to thwart all negativities, as though their indomitable spirits take up an elevated status of angel guardians, veritable sentinels to the nation!
It is as if by their sheer love for their work during their lifetime and also in their death, they are accorded a special privilege by the Divine to serve the nation still, in their after-lives as well!
“smara ciram he bhāratīya” -Let us take a moment to pray, to pay our respects and get inspired by those great souls who gave their today for our tomorrow!
तैः राष्ट्राय कृतः त्यागःसकलान् अशुभविचारान् वारयितुं प्राकारः इव तिष्ठति, तेषाम् अदम्यं सत्त्वमेव जनानां दिव्यरक्षकरूपेण वर्तते ।
जीवनकाले तथा मरणावसरे अपि ते स्वकीयं कर्म प्रति यां श्रद्धाम् धृतवन्तः तस्याः अभिनन्दनेन देवाः तान् मरणानन्तरजीवने अपि राष्ट्रम् सेवितुं विशेषेण अनुजानन्ति इति प्रतीयते ।
अस्माकम् अद्यतनकालार्थं स्वकीयं श्वस्तनकालम् दत्तवद्भ्यः तेभ्यः श्रद्धाञ्जलिं कृत्वा निमेषं प्रार्थयामहे । तैः महात्मभिः राष्ट्रसेवने वयं प्रेरिताः भवेम। “स्मर चिरं हे भारतीय ” ।
It is indeed rewarding to talk to a wandering sparrow or observe a lone magpie when we take a customary morning stroll, be it in a park or garden.
Each will have a story to tell, as your mind, unbound from earthly woes mundane, soars skywards with these feathered friends, to rapture!
‘paśyatu vimale’- ‘Look O Vimalā’, says the poet, not to miss the feast for the eyes that unfolds in the sky!
प्रातः उद्याने चलनसमये परितः भ्रमन्त्या चटकया सह आलापने तथा एकाकिनः चाषस्य दर्शने च अस्माकं महान् प्रमोदः भवेत् ।
एकैकस्य पक्षिणः अपि कथयियुं कापि कथा स्यात् । तां श्रुत्वा अस्माकं मनः सांसारिकदुःखानि त्यक्त्वा पक्षयुक्तैः तैः सह आकाशे उपरि उपरि आरोहणं करिष्यति आनन्दं प्रति ।
आकाशे अनावृतं नेत्रसुखदं दृश्यम् अदृष्टं न भवेद् इति चिन्तया कविः चोदयति – पश्यतु विमले इति ।
In spite of its refinement and perfection, how many of us know that Saṃskṛtam is also an easy language to master!
There are many villages in India where the entire population speaks solely and fluently in Saṃskṛtam!
The method of learning adopted here is different from conventional means; imparted directly in Saṃskṛtam itself and not by means of another language.
The signature song ‘saralabhāṣā saṃskṛtaṃ’ elaborates the beauty of Saṃskṛtam- its different hues, shades and forms!
यद्यपि अत्यन्तसंस्कारयुक्तं परिपक्वं च भवति संस्कृतं तथापि पठितुम् अतीव सरलं तद् इति कति जनाः जानन्ति?
भारते इदानीम् अनेके ग्रामाः सन्ति यत्र सर्वा अपि जनता धाराप्रवाहवत् भाषणं संस्कृतेन कुर्वन्ति।
तत्र शिक्षणस्य रीतिः परम्परागता प्राचीना नास्ति । संस्कृतस्य साक्षात् शिक्षणं भवति अन्यभाषायाः साहाय्यं विना ।
सरलभाषा संस्कृतम् इति गानं संस्कृतस्य माधुर्यं सौन्दर्यं विविधवर्णान् नानारूपाणि च वर्णयति ॥

संस्कृतं केवलम् उपनयनसंस्कारवतां पण्डितानां तथा देवसम्बद्धानां स्तोत्राणाम् एव भाषा इति यः वदति सः दूरे तिष्ठतु ।
भारते सुवर्णयुगे प्रशस्तानाम् नृपाणां शासनकाले जनैः भाषितम् आसीत् संस्कृतमिति ज्ञानं कस्य वा कुतूहलं न जनयेत् ।
तथा आसीत् संस्कृतस्य सारल्यम् यथा बहवः तद् लौकिकसाहित्यस्य आध्यात्मिकतत्त्वानां च प्रतिपादनाय यथेष्टं प्रयुक्तवन्तः ।
अत्यन्तं संस्कृता भाषा इति प्रथितायाः अस्याः भाषायाः प्राक्तनम् उत्कर्षम् अनुसृत्य सुवर्णकालघट्टस्य स्मृतिं जनेषु जनयितुं संस्कृतभारती यत्नम् आरब्धवती अस्ति ।
अनेन लक्ष्येण रोचकानां कवितानाम् एकं स्तबकं सङ्गीतरूपेण प्रस्तूयते । अत्र प्रकृतिः, मातृत्वम्, राष्ट्रप्रेम, इत्यादयः विषयाः ।
प्रशस्तैः रचितानि, दत्तरागाणि, गीतानि, अभिनीतानि च एतानि गानानि अस्मान् बोधयन्ति यत् भाषासङ्गीतयोः समञ्जसः योगः न केवलम् अस्माकं विचारान् अपि तु समग्रं जीवनमपि पोषयति इति ।
